LNG

Cryogenic-grade welds for export terminals and carrier construction.

LNG
Overview

TIP TIG in the
LNG

LNG operations span -162 °C cryogenic service — and the welds that survive it. TIP TIG handles 9% nickel steel, austenitic stainless, and Invar 36 with the consistency cryogenic pressure systems demand. Lower distortion on thin Invar membranes. Slag-free root passes on terminal piping. X-ray quality on first pass — every pass.

Key Advantages

Why TIP TIG

01

9% Nickel Steel

Proven on full-containment cryogenic storage tank shells, the global standard for LNG service.

02

Invar 36 Membranes

Minimal heat input preserves the CTE-critical thin sections used in membrane-type LNG tanks.

03

Austenitic Stainless Piping

Code-compliant root and fill passes on 304L / 316L cryogenic process piping.

04

Cladding for Terminal Headers

Corrosion-resistant overlay extends service life of high-cycle terminal manifolds.

05

Lower Repair Rates

Production-grade quality cuts NDT failures, reduces shutdowns, and protects project schedules.

06

Code Compliant

ASME IX, EN ISO 15614, ABS, DNV, BV, and Lloyd's Register procedures.

Proven in the Field

CNOOC Tianjin LNG Storage Tank

CNOOC chose TIP TIG to weld the inner wall plates of a 160,000 m³ LNG storage tank in Tianjin, China. This was the first use of TIP TIG on 9% nickel steel in the country. The project hit a 99.18% first-pass success rate. Construction costs dropped by about one-third per tank. Over 1.5 million working hours with zero safety incidents.
